Piet Hein Eek

He was born on April 29, 1967 in a family of two children in Purmerend. In 1985 he started his studies at the Academy for Industrial Design (later Design Academy), where he was taught by Peer de Bruin and Gijs Bakker, among others. In 1990 Eek graduated from the Academy for Industrial Design (later Design Academy) in Eindhoven, with a cabinet made of scrap wood.
In a time of extravagance and perfection he opted for simple material and a sober design.
The cabinet is included in the collection of the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam.
